Town of Scott
Centennial Celebration 2010
July 16, 17 & 18
In 2010, a Centennial Celebration is planned for
the Town of Scott, celebrating it's 100th birthday.
The Village of Scott came into existence in the year 1908 and was named to honour the Treasurer of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, Frank Scott of Montreal. In 1910 the population had increased to over 600 residents and soon out grew it's status as a Village. Scott was incorporated as a town in November of 1910.
Canadian newspapers advertised that in the early part of 1911, Scott's population had grown to 800 residents. The town had two excellent hotels; two banks - the Union Bank and the Royal Bank; a large school; four churches - Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian and Methodist; a well equipped fire department; a town hall and an opera house. It also had its own newspaper; five implement companies which grossed $396,000 worth of sales in 1910; three grain elevators; and a hustling board of trade.
Settlers who arrived from Eastern Canada, the United States and from European countries endured many hardships while relying on the resourcefulness of neighbours, family and friends. With that endurance they built the foundation of our community and left us with a heritage to remember them by. In this community they raised their families; built our schools; erected our churches; opened their businesses; gave birth to their children; seen those children grow to adulthood, marry and raise families of their own; and many endured the pain and loss of having to bury a loved one.
As it is, Scott and its community is full of memories of all the exceptional people who have lived here throughout the various stages of its existence. There were many stories told about these pioneers and early settlers that were passed down through generations. Yet, there are still many stories that are left untold relating to the people of this community and its rural area; stories of many noteworthy events and favorable accomplishments; stories of your ancestors, your parents and even of you.
WE WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND THIS INVITATION
TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TO JOIN US IN
COMPILING THE TOWN OF SCOTT HISTORY BOOK
For Scott's Centennial, a history book is now being compiled. We are asking all former and present residents of our community, to submit their family's history and any photographs in your family's collection which detail the historic accounts of your ancestry or depict the life style of our rural community in general.
Our history book will cover the Town of Scott, the community as a whole and its immediate rural areas. If you or your family have lived in the Scott area, you may have interesting stories to tell about your family's history. If you have photographs, postcards, letters, documents, newspaper clippings or news articles in your personal collection which have historical significance, we'd love to print them along with a story of your family's history.
We are also looking for pictures that involve the following community activities: school memories; church memories; agriculture; sports activities; recreational events; local clubs, organizations and services; local businesses, occupations or trades; photographs of town streets; town dwellings; and our local residents.
WE WOULD ALSO APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD ASSIST US EVEN FURTHER BY CONTACTING OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES WHO PRESENTLY RESIDE OR HAVE RESIDED IN OUR DISTRICT AND WHO YOU BELIEVE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN SHARING THEIR FAMILY'S HISTORY WITH US
If you prefer that we contact these individuals directly, feel free to submit to us their names, addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses and we'll send them the neccessary information and a copy of the History Book Guidelines.

Please Note
The Council representing the Town of Scott are not officially supporting or promoting the publication of the Town of Scott's History Book. They are in fact doing what they can to hinder its completion. It has also come to our attention that our promotional material is being removed from public notice boards and store front windows located in our neighbouring communities.
On behalf of the Town Council and Mr. Eric Schell, the Chairman of the Scott Centennial Celebration Committee, Ms. Stacy Hawkins, RMA - Adminstrator, has forwarded to us a letter requesting that any usage of the Town name, address, phone number or email address, be removed from all correspondence and pamphlets distributed.
So please note that the Council of the Town of Scott will not be collaborating or be affliated with the production of the Town of Scott's History Book.
A copy of Ms. Hawkin's letter is posted under Correspondence.
